What a day! On May 15, we finally opened our new NUE1 data center in Nuremberg - and it was even better than we had dreamed. Over 120 people from the IT community, partners and customers celebrated with us, talked shop and did what our industry does best: Exchanging ideas and looking to the future together.

Real conversations at the round tablee
Our fishbowl discussion kicked things off with a lively debate! Experts from various specialist areas such as cloud, open source software and IT service providers really warmed up to the question of whether regionally hosted, open software stands a chance against HyperScalers. The key findings were:
- Current opportunities for regional providers and open source due to growing uncertainty regarding established providers from the USA
- Regional data centers and sovereign digital offerings are becoming more important
- High barriers to switching to open source due to lack of free content and workshops
- Uncertainty as to whether open source will last must be counteracted
- Visibility of alternative open source solutions should also be promoted through public investment, as well as application training
- Small and large companies shy away from the effort
The beauty of the fishbowl format is that the participants from the audience sit at the table and share their experiences. These spontaneous moments are what make such events so special.
Four speakers, four aha moments
This was followed by a series of expert presentations:
- Rául Álvarez from the OCP Foundation showed us why Open Compute is more than just a trend - it's the future of hyperscalable infrastructures
- Dominik Goletz from HKN proved that GDPR-compliant AI with Nextcloud Flow does not have to be a contradiction in terms
- Lars Benner from Rittal brought us closer to Direct Liquid Cooling - perfect for our AI-heavy times
- Vincentz Petzholtz from Arista explained why open networks are indispensable today
We would like to send a huge thank you to our partners Swissbit, 9elements, STORDIS, M-net, DE-CIX, TANlock and the Souverain Digital Infrastructure Alliance (SDIA)! Without you, the event would not have been possible in this form and variety.
Proud announcement: We are opening another OCP Experience Center
Our new OCP Experience Center is now under construction in NUE1! This means that companies and developers can test real Open Hardware solutions here under real conditions. Experience Centers are very important for the adaptation of Open Compute Hardware. They enable more transparency, more innovation and more opportunities for everyone.
A look behind the scenes
As always, our data center tours were another highlight. Our guests were able to see live what lies behind all the figures and concepts. And the figures are impressive:
- PUE of ~1.2 - This means that almost all the energy flows into computing power, not overhead
- 100% green electricity - Certified and without ifs and buts
- CoolW@ll® technology - Our cooling system that works really efficiently
- 87% Free cooling - Nuremberg air does a lot of the work
Sustainability is not a marketing buzzword for us, but a major goal and an ongoing effort.
More than just business
We love technology, but we haven't forgotten what events are really about: bringing people together. The catering from Keepers & Cooks was fantastic, the atmosphere and conversations were relaxed and the new contacts that were made were priceless.
The doors remain open
If you were unable to attend or would simply like to drop by again: Our doors are open! Whether for an individual data center tour or a visit to the OCP Experience Center - just get in touch with us.
