First summit after the end of the funding phase
Our Head of Cloud Operations, Freerk, was at the SCS Summit 2025 in Berlin. The event took place for the first time after funding from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection expired. The event attracted a large number of participants and, without any exhibitor stands, focused on technical presentations, which were very informative throughout. The combination of business and technical topics reflected the increasing market maturity of the project.
SCS-compatible IaaS certification
We have now officially received the "SCS-compatible IaaS" certificate at the Summit, making us one of the first three certified providers in Germany - together with Artcodix and REGIO.cloud. The certification confirms compliance with the SCS standards for interoperability and standardization. For certification, defined technical standards must be met and regular compliance tests must be carried out. It enables customers to evaluate providers based on objective criteria and easily switch providers if necessary. This is a decisive factor for data sovereignty and data sovereignty.
At the same time, we are working on expanding the certificate to include the SCS IaaS Integrator certification.
Growing market and new references
The message conveyed at the summit was that the market for sovereign cloud solutions is growing and that providers are not crowding each other out. The participants see the main competition coming from the large hyperscalers. The SCS community offers them not only uniform standards but also a joint strategy.
At the summit, new members presented references for practical implementation and scalable projects. For example, BTC AG is now using OSISM solutions and Uponu GmbH has also migrated to OSISM with the support of StackXperts from VMware, which is also used by ScaleUp Open Cloud. The joint venture "Yorizon Cloud" between Thomas Krenn and Hochtief is planning 15 data centers for an SCS-based cloud infrastructure.
Technical, sustainable and strategic developments
The intensive technical discussions, which continued into the evening, demonstrate the high level of commitment of the SCS community.
Conclusion
The summit documented the successful transition of SCS from the research phase to commercial applications. As one of the first three certified providers, we are positioning ourselves as a standards-compliant partner in a growing market with increasing demand for sovereign cloud solutions. As various providers establish themselves and specialize, the SCS ecosystem is gaining strength as a European alternative to hyperscaler solutions.
The summit confirmed that SCS is increasingly being accepted as the technical basis for European cloud infrastructures. For our customers, this means flexible, interoperable solutions without vendor lock-in and complete control over their data - without sovereignty whitewashing.
The NeoNephos Foundation, a European initiative of the Linux Foundation Europe founded in March 2025, is developing in parallel to the SCS ecosystem of regional cloud providers. You can find out more about this in the following article, in which we compare SCS and the NeoNephos Foundation.
